Congress announces 7 more Gujarat candidates


Gandhinagar Mar 29 (IANS): The Congress on Thursday announced seven more candidates from Gujarat for the general election.

The party has chosen the sitting MLA from Dhoraji, Lalit Vasoya for the seat of Porbandar, a seat believed to be a strong bastion of Vitthal Radadiya and Jayesh Radadiya of the BJP.

Earlier both the father-son were in Congress. Vasoya was a former convenor of the Patel Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) and is a close aide of Hardik Patel.

For another seat in Saurashtra, the Congress has fielded another Lalit. Lalit Kagathara has been nominated for the Rajkot seat.

While in North Gujarat, the grand old party has picked up a senior Congressman in Jagdish Thakor for the seat of Patan. It is believed that OBC leader Alpesh Thakor had been eyeing the seat, but sources say the issue has already been resolved.

The Congress has fielded another sitting MLA Punjabhai Vansh for the Junagadh seat. For the Scheduled Tribe (ST) reserved seat of Panchmahal, VK Khant has been fielded.

A former Union Minister in the UPA government, Tushar Chaudhary has been picked by the Congress to field for the South Gujarat seat of Bardoli.

Jitu Chaudhary, yet another sitting MLA from Kaprada, has been selected for Valsad seat in South Gujarat. Chaudhary has been winning the state assembly for four terms.
