Qatar, Mar 4: Strong Leadership + Strong Women + Strong World = Equality”, is the international theme for 2009 International Women’s Day activities and celebrations.
To mark the International Women’s Day on March 8 and to celebrate the women in our lives, Mangalore Cricket Club, a socio-cultural club affiliated to the Indian Cultural Centre under the aegis of the Indian Embassy, Qatar, will be celebrating the International Women’s Day on Friday March20, 2009 at 5.00 pm at the Prestige Restaurant (near Qatar Airways Building, Al Mana traffic lights) in Doha.
The chief guest of the evening will be Dr Charmaine D’Souza, MD, MRCOG, a prominent Mangalorean in Qatar. She will be addressing the ladies of the club on the topic “Women’s Health”.
Born in Mumbai, India, Dr Charmaine moved to Doha with her parents in 1975 where she spent her childhood and schooling, completing her primary and secondary school education. She stood second in Qatar in the CBSE-AISCE examination of 1991. Dr Charmaine moved to Mangalore for her higher studies. She obtained her MBBS degree in 1996 from the prestigious Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore and completed her post-graduation from the same institute specializing in obstetrics and gynaecology in August 2000. She became member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), UK in May 2005.
Dr Charmaine is currently employed by Ras Gas and works as a senior medical officer in the Al Khor Medical Center in Doha. She earlier worked for Hamad Medical Corporation.
Dr Charmaine is married to Dr Prakash Joseph and they have two sons aged 9 and 5 years. Her special interests are women’s health and preventive gynaecology.
