Congress is political future of India: Shatrughan Sinha

Mumbai, March 30 (IANS): Bollywood actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who has finally quit the BJP, feels that the Congress is the political future of India.

Q: So you have finally done what we knew for some time?

A: (laughs heartily) Raaz ki baat jo sab jaante the. Open Secret. Yes, I have joined hands with Soniaji, Rahul and Priyanka. I am now a part of the Congress.

Q: Why?

A: Why? Why did I choose to join Congress? It was a decision taken after much deliberation and thought. And why not? The Congress is the party that brought us kicking and dragging into free India. It gave us national legends like Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Q: That was in the past. Where are the leaders of that stature in the Congress now?

A: Well, we could give the same argument for the BJP. I joined hands with them (BJP) because of the great leaders like L.K. Advaniji and Atal Bihariji. Leadership has to change. Today the Congress is in the hands of Rahul Gandhi.

Q: He was trolled mercilessly until very recently?

A: But Rahul has evolved in the past year or so. He is no longer ridiculed. Besides his sister Priyanka has also joined hands with Rahul. We have to give him a chance. I was happy when he spoke to me and said he is very happy to welcome me to the party.

Q: Yes, you and Urmila Matondkar?

A: The more the merrier. I think the Congress is the political future of India. It saw India through its toughest times. It's time to give them another chance.

Q: So what prompted you to make the move from BJP to Congress?

A: Many factors. I was not being treated properly by the BJP. When they announced Ravi Shankar Prasadji as their candidate from my seat in Patna, something gave way inside me. I ceased being a loyal soldier of the BJP. Not that I intend to badmouth anyone from the BJP. I respect the senior leaders. They are my colleagues and friends and I am not into the politics of mudslinging. I hope they feel the same.

Q: Your daughter Sonakshi feels you should have left the BJP long ago?

A: (laughs) Achcha. When did she say that? How sweet of her! I am in Muscat where they're honouring me as a cinematic legend. My family has been advising me to do the right thing in my political career. And not just they. My dear family friend Lalu Yadavji also wanted me to join hands with the Congress.

Q: Do you think the Congress will accord you the respect you deserve?

A: I feel welcomed here. As you know, I was unhappy with my position in the BJP for a long time. The party leadership knew I was unhappy. No one came forward to speak to me. There was no dialogue at all. It was as if they had shut me out. I didn't have to suffer this humiliation. But I stayed on out of loyalty. But now I feel it's time to move on.

Q: What are you plans as a Congress member?

A: To serve the country and to end the culture of intolerance that has taken over the nation. If you criticize a government policy, you are not anti-India. If you say Kashmir is burning, you are not pro-Pakistan.

"This government has been a failure on all fronts and has inflicted pain and misery on the people through its reckless decisions of demonetisation and hasty imposition of a flawed GST, demonetization and GST disrupted the economy, trade and industry, led to closure of lakhs of factories and tens of millions of workers lost their jobs and livelihood. The unprecedented joblessness, agrarian crisis and distress of farmers and agricultural laborers are issues of grave national concern. The Modi government is guilty of monumental mismanagement of the Indian economy.

No accountability at all for corruption during the last five years. Corruption has become rampant across the country. After the next Govt is formed all the skeletons in the BJP vast array of hidden cupboards will be exposed including the Rafale Scam.

Modi Sarkar Ko Hatao. Desh Ko Bachao. They should be made accountable for over 100 deaths in ATM Ques after the Demoitisation.

I agree with your view point, .progress happened during Lal bahadur shastri ..PV narasimha rao and indira gandhi ..
But more progress happened during Rajiv Gandhi time, which was disclosed due to political compulsion. He was the architect for modern India and when PV PV narasimha rao, was the PM of India and Man Mohan was the Finance Minister, India started implementing open market. During Man Mohan Sing time, when he was the PM of India, when the world was suffering recession and in spite of oil price per barrel was more than usd 100, still India was progressing.

Congress that fought for freedom is different from the Congress Kai Kodi party!
The original symbol of the party was Pettha Kanji- it was taken away

They only have the same name - can someone educate this guy.
Gandhi, who fought for independence is in no way related to the current can the family. Somebody has to educate people that they are just the last names. The current family has benefited And made politics a business

We do a disservice when uneducated Movie actors in all parties start governing.
Their Constancy and the people suffer.

The Congress party under Mrs Indira Gandhi became extreme socialistic and nonprogressive and only wanted to win elections by religious appeasement And Free giveaways And secure remote banks without letting people. Progress.
The Congress party has become a symbol of corruption, cronyism, and cynical, all of which represent the Worst form of humanity in civil society.

People are unhappy. Currently, because they're not getting freebies and live a civilized life by paying taxes and being accountable. Nothing comes free society. We have to work for it!
Look at our own town-The people who brought us the big things to Mangalore and took it to international levels with the people in the 60s. and 70s What they brought us was a port, fertilizer factory, National highways, Konkan Railway project and religious harmony
What has happened since then, is just a tragedy- we have not seen any major projects,, but we have seen Congress party members, amassing huge wealth and becoming powerbrokers and we call them our leaders.
Just look at the current member of Parliament candidates from the Congress party- what is the source of his income and how did the become a power broker and who is he a power broker for?
Everybody knows the facts, but we're turning a blind eye and ultimately be will pay the price.
