Video: Kerala woman turns hubby's passport into makeshift phone directory!

Daijiworld Media Network - Kochi

Kochi, Mar 30: A passport is a very important document and a proof of one’s identity and nationality. There is no substitute document for a passport, and any sign of tampering, even if inadvertent, is likely to result in serious consequences.

So imagine a man's consternation when he found that his wife had conveniently used his passport as a makeshift phone directory!

Not only that, on the last few pages, she jotted down her grocery list and even some calculations. At a time when most people depend on their phones for saving numbers and taking notes, this lady still preferred being traditional and, unfortunately for her husband, chose a very important document for it.

A video of this makeshift phone directory has gone viral in the social media. Sources said that the video was first uploaded online by the passport holder's son.

Amused netizens had a field day as they shared the video with witty comments. While some pointed out that it "happens only in India" and would therefore in itself be a proof of Indian nationality, others said it was "another way of tattooing passport." Some wondered if it was an expired passport, while others took a more serious note and advised people to be careful.

Some people even joked that this was the typical Indian way of innovation, or more commonly, jugaad. Another user commented this is what happens 'when you have money and passport but not visa'.

Lesson to be learnt - always keep a notepad handy!

As Kerala claims to be having 100% literacy, this is one of those incidents typically due to stupidity, foolishness or extra smartness whichever way you can put it as Keralites imbibe these traits in abundance.

    Ladies,
If your husband wants to doesn't want you to stay with him in gulf or other countries, and if he feels he can give everything to you during his one month vacation, then this is the best way.

It looks like the poor husband of the woman must have got the passport with the dream of flying off to Gelf to yern lot of money but for some reason the dream could not not have come true. So she decided to make the best use of the passport herself. Lucky husband to have a Very intelligent woman like her.

That is correct. Good presence of mind. Bur, there is no cancelled stamp and without cancelled stamp on the old passport, new application for passport is not accepted. That means, he does not have a new valid passport. Now, if he applies for one, when he has to submit old passport for cancellation stamp, they will charge fine of Rs 5000. Otherwise, he has to submit the copy of the complaint he made to police as the passport was lost. But, since now America and some other countries give multiple visitor visa for 10 years, the visa may still remain on the old passport, in which case the passport may not be stamped as cancelled while issuing new passport. Canada gives 10 years multiple visitor visa, but if the passport is valid for a lesser period, they give visa only till the expiration of passport.

If he is not using the passport, there is no problem, since passport people are not police to come and fine him. But if he applies for a new or a passport in lieu of defaced, he will be charged a fine of Rs 5000 since he is educated. If the person is illiterate fine is Rs. 1000. Also, he has to give an affidavit.

If he wants a new passport without paying fine, he has to destroy it and inform police that it is lost and he can apply for a new or a passport in lieu of this. He has to give the copy of the complaint given to police and an affidavit. Any way, police cannot find the passport, since it is already destroyed by him.

Cant imagine using husbands passport as her makeshift phone directory.Either she is not normal in mind,or simply wanted that he doesnt travel out.But why did the husband kept his so important document simply around the phone as if it is a scribble paper? He should immediately go ot police and let it changed or file complain about his wife.otherwise he himself will be in trouble soon.Police think he has dont it .sometimes you face some people who doesnt have any common sense but no brain too.And this is the one for example.like Einsteins wife.

Really a smart lady.. 😆😆😆😆 what to say ? I am thinking myself what she must have thought that passport book was?? A magic slate, scribbling pad? Note pad? Must be busy with the mobile all the time as we get to see so many videos about the usage of mobile continuously. Thinking something and ending up in doing something.

Yes that's the tragedy of the state who has 100% literacy...to give one short ex. of our day to day life here at our place, even the person who comes to collect newspapers or plastic, if he finds any paper on which written something, will ask twice whether that paper is important for you or what please check.. before filling those papers in his sack ? He is an uneducated old gentleman I can say.. This is called common sense more important than any other thing.
