Rahul Gandhi's fight in Wayanad not symbolic: Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 31 (IANS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad in Kerala, apart from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, cannot be seen as a symbolic fight, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Sunday.

Vijayan's remarks came shortly after the Congress announced in New Delhi that Gandhi was going to contest from both the seats.

"In Kerala as we all know, the fight is between the Left and the Congress, with the BJP not in the picture at all. He should have fought against the BJP. Now that he has decided to contest from Wayanad, we the Left will see to defeat him," Vijayan told the media reported.

Kerala is slated to go to the polls on April 23 to elect 20 Lok Sabha candidates.

In reply to a question over the outcome if the UPA wins the general elections, Vijayan said: "We have already fielded our candidate and he will be taking on Gandhi."

The Wayanad seat has been allocated to the Communist Party of India (CPI) and it has fielded P.P. Suneer as their candidate.

Vijayan also expressed his resentment against the Congress for not clinching an alliance with the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party which would have worked to take on the BJP.

"I am sure the BJP is not going to make any inroads in Uttar Pradesh and all along Amethi has been a bastion of the Congress party."

Though I very much hate to admit ,For once I tend to agree with PV here. The ideal place for RaGa would have been Mangalore , against Nalin.
It was really necessary. Though I support Mithun da, I think RaGa would have been a better choice to consolidate the Cong in DK.

It is always to be safe. In Wayanad, last time Congress won with a margin of 180000 votes.
Getting defeated in Mangalore is a shame you know!

Why is Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi's full focus on states like UP, Bengal and Kerala? Why not focus on MP, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh? What will the Congress gain by reducing the opposition?

    True, it is not symbolic.

Modi led BJP can go to any extent and stoop to any lows, for election wins. This is largely a fact well accepted by all. Even MLA's who won from non-BJP parties, can be seen within BJP with every opportunity to power. So, what attracts them to BJP, when the same MLA fought his BJP counterpart with all his myth. Money and power can sway any balance and can dump truth. It is a fact.

There is very rare chances that BJP can do that tactic in Kerala. BJP has no ground presence in Kerala. Naturally, it is hard for BJP to play dirty games from there. Simple and Straight.
