Union Minister among 149 booked in Bihar

Patna, Apr 1 (IANS): Cases were registered against BJP leader and Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey and 149 others on Monday in Bihar's Buxar district on charges of misbehaving with public servants on duty.

Following the violation of the model code of conduct on Saturday, police booked the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare who is the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Buxar Lok Sabha seat.

An FIR was registered against Choubey and the others, including BJP leader Rana Pratap Singh, for "assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty", Station House Officer Avinash Kumar said.

The case was registered after Sadar SDO K.K. Upadhyay complained that Choubey and Singh misbehaved with them when they asked them to end a public meeting on Saturday that overshot the permissible time limit.

Choubey was using 40 vehicles in his convoy. The Minister got into heated row with Upadhyay after the police officer stopped his convoy and tried to apprise him about the Election Commission's orders.

"What's the issue? Whose order is it. Send me to jail if you have to do something. This is my vehicle and you cannot seize it," Choubey reportedly said when his vehicles were stopped.
