Vadodara artist bags 3-month residency in Scotland

New Delhi, Apr 1 (IANS): Selected as the 2019 'Emerging Artist of the Year' by Glenfiddich, Raju Baraiya will represent India at a three-month art residency in Scotland this summer.

The Vadodara-based artist was chosen from a pool of five finalists by a jury, comprising artists, gallerists, art critics and collectors, art patron Kiran Nadar, designer Sunil Sethi and Glenfiddich artists in residence programme curator Andy Fairgrieve.

The announcement was made after the jury deliberated on the finalists' works last week.

A student of painting art, Baraiya was thrilled at the chance to "interact with artists from across the world and create refreshing masterpieces".

Bestcollegeart.com, which has collaborated with Glenfiddich, an alcohol brand, for the 18-year-old programme, will be giving Rs 10 lakh award to Baraiya.

Indian artists who have won the Scotland residency are Juhikadevi Bhanjdeo (2012), Yuvan Bothysathuvar (2013), Chetnaa Verma (2014), Krupa Makhija (2015), Subir Hati (2016), Sitaram Swain (2017) and Biblap Sarkar (2018).
