AAP alleges BJP misguiding Delhi on statehood

New Delhi, Apr 1 (IANS): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai on Monday accused Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari of misleading the people of Delhi by claiming that the city can't be granted full statehood due to a Supreme Court ruling.

"Five years back, you and your party had promised to make Delhi a full state, and on the basis of that promise the people of Delhi made your party victorious on all seven seats of Delhi," Rai wrote to Tiwari, who is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from North East Delhi.

After five years, however, neither the BJP nor its MPs did anything on the statehood for Delhi, Rai said.

He further said that now that AAP has launched an intense struggle for the full statehood for Delhi, "you are consistently and repeatedly stating that Delhi can't be given full statehood since the Supreme Court of India has denied it."

"This is a blatant lie and you are misleading the people of Delhi by propagating this lie," he said.

Rai said the fact is that the Supreme Court has given no such verdict on the statehood for Delhi.
