Everyone in Congress wants to campaign for Rahul

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 2 (IANS): With Congress President Rahul Gandhi deciding to contest the Lok Sabha elections also from Wayanad, the party is facing a new problem in Kerala - all party leaders want to campaign for Gandhi.

Kerala goes to the polls on April 23 to elect 20 Lok Sabha members.

In 2014, the then ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) won 12 seats while the Left ended up with eight seats.

Congress General Secretary Oommen Chandy, who is reaching Kozhikode on Wednesday, will accompany Gandhi while he files his nomination on Thursday at the Wayanad collectorate.

The former Chief Minister is besieged with requests from a virtual Who's Who of the Congress in Kerala eager to campaign for Gandhi.

"Our state leadership will finalize a detailed campaign strategy by Thursday," said Chandy.

He said that state Congress President Mullapally Ramachandran would lead the campaign for Gandhi, who will contest this time from both Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala.

"The charge of each of the seven Assembly segments that make up the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency will be given to a senior party leader. There will be no crowding of leaders in the campaign," he added.

Congress MLA V.D. Sateeshan is in charge of printing the posters of Gandhi.

A team of music enthusiasts will come out with songs in Malayalam which will be played after Gandhi files his nomination on Thursday.
