AAP slams Congress for not promising statehood to Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 3 (IANS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday slammed the Congress for not promising statehood to Delhi, hours after the party released its election manifesto promising full statehood to Puducherry but no mention of the national capital.

Speaking to the media, AAP leader Gopal Rai noted the Congress had earlier promised statehood to Delhi, "but now they are not talking about it".

"The Congress forgot about the statehood of Delhi and promised it for Puducherry. Why they are doing this to Delhi?" he asked.

In a tweet, AAP leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the Congress had cheated the people of Delhi.

"The Congress has been promising statehood to Delhi since the last 20 years. Why suddenly a U-turn? How can we trust that it will fulfill its promises?" he said.
