Unsuspecting cops check Andhra police chief's car

Amaravati, Apr 3 (IANS): Andhra Pradesh Police personnel checked the private car of Director General of Police R.P. Thakur -- not knowing who was the occupant.

The police chief was in his private vehicle on a surprise visit to Maoist infested areas near the Andhra-Odisha border on Tuesday.

While passing through Srungavarapukota Assembly constituency in Vizianagaram district, he found police personnel and other government officials checking vehicles as part of security arrangements for next week's Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

They checked his vehicle too and only then Thakur praised the police and revenue officials for their work -- and said he would be happy if the police checked his vehicle every day.

He said he would recommend the Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police to reward the officials who checked his vehicle.
