Political advertising – BJP takes top slot; Congress stands sixth

New Delhi, Apr 4: With regards to political advertising on Google, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has topped the chart with a share of around 32 per cent. Congress stands sixth with 0.14 per cent share.

According to the internet giant's Indian Transparency Report released Thursday, April 4, political parties and their affiliates have spent Rs 3.76 crore on advertisements since February 19, 2019. BJP with a total advertisement expense of Rs 1.21 crore accounts for around 32 per cent of the expenses on Google. Congress’ expenditure stands at Rs 54,100.

Andhra Pradesh's Jagan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party which spent Rs 1.04 crore stands second, Pramanya Strategy Consulting Private Limited, which was promoting the Telugu Desham Party (TDP) and its chief Chandrababu Naidu with an advertisement expenditure of Rs 85.25 lac stands third, and Digital Consulting Pvt Ltd again promoting Chandrababu Naidu and TDP stands fourth with a total spending of Rs 63.43 lac.

It is said that Google blocked advertisements of four of 11 political advertisers due to violation of its ad policy.
