Speaker Sumitra Mahajan not to contest Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi, Apr 5 (IANS): Lok Sabha Speaker and BJP veteran Sumitra Mahajan on Friday announced that she will not contest the general elections commencing next week.

Making her intentions clear in a letter released by her office, the sitting MP from the Indore parliamentary constituency urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership to end the "indecision" over the party's candidate from Indore.

While announcing its candidates from Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has not named anyone from Indore yet. Mahajan noted in the letter that it was possible that the party leadership was feeling shy in taking a decision (to replace her).

"Why is this situation of indecision," asked the eight-time MP.

Mahajan, who will turn 76 on April 12, said that she had discussed the issue long back with the seniors in the party and had left the decision on them.

"It appears that there is still some uncertainty in their minds. Hence I declare that I will not contest the Lok Sabha polls. The party can announce its decision without hesitation," she said.

Mahajan has been representing Indore since 1989.

The BJP has so far denied tickets to all its MPs, including veterans Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, who have crossed the age of 75.

She is MP of Indore from last 30 years. She didn't even try to bring Broad Gauge line to Indore. One of the top cities of India and not connected to the broad gauge. What a Shame. She failed to take care of Indore, although she elected for 6 times / 30 yrs.

Criticised for her biased and partisan handling of the Lok Sabha as Speaker, she appears to have outlived her utility even to the Bharatiya Janata Party

Sumitra Mahajan is a true Sanghi in a Saree! On the Chair, she was worse than the BJP backbenchers.
Sumitra Mahajan joins the likes of L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalraj Mishra, B C Khanduri and Babulal Gaur who have been eased out of electoral politics by the new leadership without the courtesy of informing them or the constituents they nursed so assiduously for decades.
Midway through Rahul’s speech, Mahajan had adjourned the House. Many felt that it was an inappropriate decision given that he was in the midst of launching a fierce attack against the BJP while embarrassing the prime minister and his party on the Rafale scam and surprise jump in the wealth of BJP President Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah.

It is sad that the BJP has become a private limited company of two leaders. The party has humiliated her. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will be remembered as most bias to the Congress while conducting the business of the House.

Actual truth is Modi didn't give BJP veteran Sumitra Mahajan a ticket for indore. So what can she say other than politely saying I am not going to contest the LS election.
BJP used her and dumped her too like Advani and Joshi.
