Mangaluru: St Aloysius Gonzaga School holds successful summer camp 'Illumine'

Mangaluru, Apr 13: To provide an opportunity to spend the summer vacation in a productive way in a safe and secured environment, St Aloysius Gonzaga School organised Summer Camp – 2019 'Illumine- II' from April 1 to 12 for students of kindergarten to class V.

86 students including non – Gonzagaites participated in the camp.

They were divided into two groups 'Seraphs' and 'Cherubs' which means angels.



The inaugural ceremony of the camp was on April 1 which was graced by Fr Melwin Anil Lobo SJ and academic principal Grace Noronha.

The camp was organised in such a way that each group was engaged in different fun filled and informative activities like yoga, Zumba, folkdance, art and craft, music, action song and recreational games everyday. Snacks and juice were served everyday during break time.

On April 3, children were taken to the swimming pool at St Aloysius College where they enjoyed. April 4 was a day of excitement when team Mangaluru guided the campers to prepare colourful kites.

The next excitement was on April 5, the day when the campers visited Pilikula Lake Park and Planetarium. The environment of Pilikula which is surrounded by the bounty of nature was a refreshing experience which is not found at the school.

Social etiquette which needs to be imbibed in our day to day life was briefed by Reena Dominica Noronha. The next day, April 10 had a snake show by Joy Mascaranhas, famous herpetologist from Ujire. Along with his PPT presentation, he showed real snakes and briefed on types of snakes, food and living habits, myths about snakes and first aid for snake bite.

April 11 was campus visit to the famous St Aloysius Museum – Aloyseum which has a large eclectic collection including mounted skeletons of wild animals, the first generator of our city, collection of Roman coins and many other interesting things. The students also visited St Aloysius Chapel and appreciated the fresco painting.
The Gonzaga teachers were the resource persons for dance, Zumba, action song, music and art and craft by the talented teachers while yoga was taught by the yoga expert- Kushalappa.

The camp wound up with a valedictory function on April 12 presided over by Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, rector and vice president of St Aloysius Institutions, academic principal Grace Noronha along with principal designate Fr Melwin Anil Lobo SJ.

The summer campers presented a splendid programme showcasing their talents which they had learned at the camp. Keegan Shane Albert and Gareth shared their camp experience and teacher Gloria Misquith read out the camp report.

While addressing the gathering, Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ congratulated the parents for sending their children to the summer camp. He was all praise for the creative work displayed in the hall.

Fr Melwin Anil Lobo SJ expressed his views by saying, "Summer is the time children must engage themselves in playing and keeping in mind that the school has provided the best opportunities by organising different activities."

Academic principal Grace Noronha addressing the parents said, "Children were trained for different camp activities by the talented team of teachers of the school. The responsibility of the parents is to encourage their child to continue the creative work learnt at the camp, at home also."

The teachers were felicitated by Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, rector and Fr Melwin Anil Lobo SJ.

The programme concluded with the National Anthem followed by distribution of refreshments, participation certificates and art and craft work done by the children.

The summer campers carried sweet memories of the camp to cherish in the coming days of summer vacation.
