New Delhi, Apr18: The Election Commission in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday banned the 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' advertisement of the Congress party and ordered an end to its broadcast. In a letter sent by Madhya Pradesh joint chief electoral officer Rajesh Kaul, the Election Commission urged the grand old party to stop the broadcast of the ad campaign with immediate effect.
The EC has taken this immediate action following the objection filed by BJP to stop the campaign, saying it was a personal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has often referred to himself as an anti-corruption 'chowkidar' (security guard) at election rallies.
IANS reported that the joint chief election officer also informed all the state district officers to discontinue the Congress ad campaign as the media certification and inspection committee has already cancelled the ad. Chief Election Officer V L Kantarao has directed that action should be taken against Congress.
