George Fernandes Dismisses Remarks That He is 'Sick'

Patna, Mar 25: Rebel JD-U leader George Fernandes on Wednesday dismissed as "misguided and false" the oft-repeated remarks of party leaders, including chief minister Nitish Kumar, that he was "sick".

"I am sitting fit and fine before you. I have come here to seek peoples' opinion on contesting elections from Muzaffarpur, the seat I represented several times in the past. I will announce my decision after meeting the people in the constituency", Fernandes told a crowded press conference here.

Asked if he was denied a party ticket "at the instance of Congress", Fernandes said "It might have been influenced under pressure from the Congress against which I will continue my fight in the future.

To another question as to whether he would contest elections against JD(U) nominee, the former NDA convenor said "I will not oppose the party which I built with my own hands".

Fernandes arrived here yesterday on his first visit to Bihar to a rousing welcome by his supporters after being denied a ticket by the state's ruling JD-U.

I feel pity for George, he was having a very powerful position during NDA's days and now they dumped him. When Graham Steins & his sons were burnt alive by Sangh Parivar's Dara Singh, George was there too just to give a clean chit to the killers. Now who cares whether he is sick or healthy? A former NDA convenor is not in demand either by NDA or any other BJP family.
