Beltangady, Apr 24: A person from Gampadadda in Kukkala village in Beltangady taluk had complained to the personnel of Punjalkatte police station, that cash and gold ornaments had been stolen from his house when the family members were away. Now the police have found that the complainant himself had committed the said theft.

The accused in the case is Sadiq (30), son of Yousub Beary from Gampadadda. He had said that theft had occurred on April 19 at his home. During the questioning, the police grew suspicious and subjected Sadiq to detailed questioning. During this period, he confessed that he was the one who had stolen the items. He was arrested and 62 grams of gold ornaments and cash he had stolen were recovered.

Sadiq's family members along with their relatives staying in the adjacent house had attended a marriage function organized some distance away on April 19. When they returned in the evening, they found that the house had been burgled in their absence. The steel almirah was found to have been broken open, and ornaments and cash kept inside were stolen. Sadiq filed a complaint of theft with the police thereafter.

Beltangady police circle inspector, Sandesh Kumar, and Punjalkatte police sub-inspector, K R Suneeta, conducted investigation in this case under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police (SP), Laxmi Prasad, additional SP, Vikram Amate, and Bantwal assistant superintendent of police, Saidul Adavat.
