Indian ships at International Fleet Review in China


New Delhi, Apr 25 (IANS): Indian Navy ships Kolkata and Shakti took part in the International Fleet Review (IFR) organised in China's Qingdao on Tuesday to mark the 70th anniversary of People's Liberation Army (PLA), an official statement said on Wednesday.

A total of 32 vessels of the PLA Navy and 18 vessels from 13 countries took part in the IFR which was reviewed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

As a part of sports interaction, Indian team participated in ‘Sampan Race' a boat pulling race organised for a distance of 2.5 km and in Tug-o-War championship, said the statement.

A friendly football match was also played between Indian and Brunei Navy personnel.

The Indian Navy team secured 'runners-up' position in the overall sports team positions and the host, PLA (Navy) team adjudged as the 'overall winners' in the IFR sporting activities, as per the statement.

"There was enthusiastic response from a large number of residents to have a closer look at the Indian Naval ships when they were kept 'open to visitors'," it said.
