Amethi, Apr 25: Union Minister Smriti Irani, who is contesting against Rahul Gandhi in the upcoming elections from Amethi Lok Sabha seat called her rival, ‘the missing MP.’
At a public meet on Wednesday, she condemned the AICC president for not utilising the 75 crores rupees obtained from Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund for development in the last 15 years. She challenged Congress leaders to prove that Rahul constructed at least one toilet for the poor in the region.
She then contrasted Rahul’s failures to achievements of PM Narendra Modi. “Poor families from Amethi were benefited with two lakh toilets because of Modi,” she said.
“While the sitting MP could not construct a single toilet to uphold the dignity of women, the party which lost elections here ensured development happened here,” she said.
She also spoke about other achievements and schemes launched by the BJP.
“Darkness will prevail if Modi does not get votes. It was the PM who provided toilets, cooking gas cylinder, gave 4000 rupees to farmers and ensured healthcare treatment of Rs 5 lakh. If Modi does not get votes, these progressive schemes will come to an end,” she warned.
Amethi, a Congress bastion will vote on May 6. Results will be announced on May 23.
