Only BJP's name under its symbol in EVM: Opposition parties complain to EC

Barrackpore (WB), Apr 28: Alleging display of party name only under the BJP symbol on EVMs during a mock poll in West Bengal's Barrackpore constituency, opposition parties on Saturday approached the Election Commission.

A delegation of opposition parties comprising senior Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Ahmed Patel and Trinamool Congress' Dinesh Trivedi and Derek O'Brien met Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora over the issue and demanded that either all such EVMs be removed from the remaining phases of elections or names of other parties be added too.

Interestingly, the poll panel said the same insignia has been under use since 2013. The EVMs display the party symbols, name of the candidates and their photographs.

Singhvi, after meeting the CEC, told reporters, "On EVMs, letters 'BJP' are visible under the party's symbol. No other party's name is there. Either remove all machines which mention BJP clearly or all other parties' name should be added in all such machines. Till then the use of these machines has to be totally stopped in the elections.”

Former railway minister Dinesh Trivedi, who is also a sitting MP from Barrackpore, said, “Before the EC could hear our part of the argument, they had already given the judgment that we are carrying on with the process and there is nothing wrong.”

    The final word on the debate has been said: the voting machines are tamper-proof, they just happen to tilt in favor of one party.

    A new batch of the much-touted tamper-proof EVMs launched right under the nose of the Narendra Modi government seems to come with the following options for voters to choose from:

    1) BJP
    2) BJP
    3) BJP

    Well, if Vikas has not gone crazy (vikas gando thayo chhe), the EVMs used by the Election Commission in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls certainly seem to have.

    Yes, Germany did end electronic voting with "closed" EVMs in 2009 after voters challenged it in the German Federal Constitutional Court (German equivalent of the Supreme Court), but then we aren't Germans. Yes, Japan experimented with the system, but did away with it without ever using it in any election. But then we aren't Japanese either. We are Indians and we believe in the Election Commission.

    The final word on the debate has been said - EVMs are tamper-proof. They just happen to malfunction in favour of the BJP.

    Here is the sample of EVM rigged;

    Mock poll with 9 votes for each of 6 candidates in booth no 31 in 34 AC in Goa. Total count BJP gets 17, Cong 9 , Aap 8. Ind 1 . BJP gets 17 votes from EVM with 9 votes.

    .In Karnataka, where the voting has taken place for the remaining 14 seats, Minister Priyank Kharge wrote, “Way too many EVMs are malfunctioning in Chittapur. Over 20 reported so far. Hope the district administration has enough backups.”
    Kerala too reported similar complaints of every vote cast to the Congress going in favour of the BJP. New Indian Express reported, “There are reports of widespread malfunction of electronic voting machines in various constituencies of the state. As many as 20 EVMs malfunctioned in Kasaragod, while five machines developed technical glitches in Kayankulam.
    Thanks to Election Commission of India's 'Match fixing' of arranged democracy to favor PM Modi India.
