Mohali, Mar 30: Senior Akali Dal leader and Punjab cooperation minister Kanwaljit Singh was killed when a truck rammed his official car in Mohali on Sunday.  His driver and gunman were injured.

Singh was going to Chandigarh from Ludhiana to attend an election meeting. Rushed to PGI, Chandigarh, in a critical condition by his aides, he succumbed to the injuries soon after.

The Punjab government has ordered a magisterial probe into the accident. The driver of killer truck is absconding.

The minister was considered the most vocal and intelligent voice of the Akalis.

The impact of collision was such that the car flipped 180 degrees and was hit by another truck in the rear, eyewitness reports said. The minister's security guards pulled a profusely bleeding minister out of the car and rushed him to Kharar civil hospital in the escort vehicle. They later took him to the PGI, where he was kept in ICU because of critical head injuries.
