MES College in Malappuram district of Kerala bans burqa

Daijiworld Media Network - Kerala (SR)

Kerala, May 2: Following Sri Lanka, Kerala also witnessed a major ‘burqa’ controversy after a college in the state's Malappuram district banned burqa from its college premises. With Muslims being the majority in the region, this ban is expected to foresee a massive reaction.

The Muslim Education Society in Calicut, on April 17, passed a circular stating that burqas in all schools and colleges under MES will be banned, in accordance with the court order that says any ‘dress against the changing society’ should not be permitted. This is applicable not only for burqas but also for other dresses which they think is inappropriate.

The circular, in its third paragraph, clearly states that any dress that covers the face of the woman should be banned.

Many religious organizations in the state have already raised voice against the circular and said, "It is against religious sentiments of a particular community and that MES should have consulted various organisations before taking such decisions."

Sri Lanka’s burqa ban including all other means of covering the face by a presidential decree, a week after Easter Sunday attacks has already created a major setback amongst the community. It was reportedly first proposed as a private member’s bill in the Sri Lankan parliament by MP Ashu Marasinghe who had sought a motion to ban burqa stating that it is not a traditional Muslim garment and it should be banned on security grounds.

Please do not mislead, Nikab got banned, It's just a face veil which covers face or identity not Burkha as mentioned in the headline. The culture of wearing face veil(nikab) was not part of our beary culture until some fanatics(clerics) who started to impose it on women.Sadly, it became a custom now and women too started to think as if its their right and they started to come to streets fighting for it.

A step in the right direction. I'd encourage the people to support these moderates as the minority fundamentalists will be out in force and will be vocal. Face covering is nothing but the will of man over woman in the name of religion.

I feel that every schools and Colleges must have a dress code and uniform. While at the time of the administration the students and their parents must agree the conditions and then only students must join. After joining suddenly if the college authorities make any changes according to the situation, the students must follow. That all so must clearly inform at the time of admission. Before joining all must read the rules.

And what the ISIS and it's followers are doing all over the world also against religious values and norms of peaceful existence. Some lady terrorists commit the deadly action under the disguise of Burqa. In order to safe guard the public and in view of security concerns some changes need to take place.
