Congress delegation meets EC over EVMs, other issues

New Delhi, May 4 (IANS): A Congress delegation on Friday met the Election Commission (EC) and requested it to provide details of each Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and polling stations to ensure transparency during the counting of votes on May 23 after the end of the Lok Sabha elections on May 19.

After meeting the EC, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was part of the delegation, told the media that the deputation also urged the poll panel to provide the details of how many EVMs malfunctioned and were replaced so that the details could be matched during the counting of votes.

The delegation, which also included All India Congress Committee (AICC) Treasurer Ahmed Patel and senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, further requested the EC to appoint special observers at all polling booths in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi parliamentary constituency.

The staggered seven-phase Lok Sabha elections are being from April 11 to May 19. The seven phases will cover a total of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.
