Explosives found buried in Sri Lanka mosque backyard

Colombo, May 4 (IANS): Three locally made bombs and 100 grams of ammonia have been found buried in a backyard of a mosque in a Sri Lankan district, the police said.

The explosives were recovered at Welipenna on Friday night during a joint operation carried out by the Special Task Force and the police, the Daily Mirror reported.

The police said a 42-year-old suspect was arrested after the recovery of explosives.

Officials also seized 16 circuit boards of high technology, 16 SIM cards, several compacts discs, computer accessories and a car in a house at Pirivena Mawatha in Mount Lavinia.

According to the police, each circuit board had the capacity to contain 12 SIM cards. A 52-year old man was detained along with the items.

The recovery was made after the authorities cancelled weekend masses in the capital due of fears of fresh bomb attacks.

The Archdiocese of Colombo spokesman Fr. Edmond Tilakaratne had said that the decision was made by Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith to cancel the masses on Saturday and Sunday based on the latest security reports.

The churches in Colombo and suburbs have been closed since the April 21 deadly Easter Sunday bomb attacks which killed 253 people and injured hundreds.

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Please, i request once again and again and again, don't relate religion with the terrorist activities. There is absolutely no connection of Islam with any terrorism. Our Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) was sent to spread the message of peace. If the intention was to kill everyone, who would been available to listen to the message of Allah. Our Prophet Muhammad(Peace be upon Him) even spared those people who had made multiple attempts to kill Him. We Muslims follow only the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad. It is the first condition of our faith. (Kalima Shahadath). All these terrorists have their own innovative believes that propagates violent and unjustified killings. They have no faith and patience to leave the matters to Allah.
Even I spend a lot of time in Masjid daily, for years altogether. I find nothing but peace in any Masjids. We don't even talk worldly matters in Masjid, except talking about welfare of someone. Being in my late thirties, I obviously meet all the youngsters in Masjid who are devout Muslims and everyone is so sad about these terrorism related issues as any other person would be.

everyone should love their religion & follow their religion. but at the same time that religion should not blame other religion. people should respect other religion also. don't feel or argue that only our religion is superior. don't hate other religion. when you give respect to other religion then this kind of issue will be solved.

If you have sense, you would surely desist to say so.

Even LTTE had bombed earlier a Masjid, killing about 170 people. If you have to give religious colour to an incident, don't skip any incident and don't be choosy in selecting the incidents that suits your purpose.

    What is your point Kutty?
LTTE is /was also a Terrorist organization- some gave it a name separatist- but it was using terror for its agenda

Now Islamic terror has only one purpose- BE like us or you perish or get killed in the name of religion.
They did this in every country- and all Muslims should condemn it with one voice and daily to drive away from the ideological extremists. In Islamic nations, they are killing each other because it not extreme enough and now it's a business organization.
It's heartbreaking to see the women and children left behind in Syria in the battles- what will those kids grow up to be ?

    @Hindu, Kudla,

If some terrorists say that - be like us or get perished, why are you relating them to Islam. They are following something other than Islam. You can find similar people, who kill other people just for not following their eating habits. And many religious people just justify that and even felicilate those criminals. Am I wrong?

Religious prayers are open to any believer to come and pray.
If any one terrorist uses the backyard of that place for some other reason, it is the crime of that particular person only.
