Abu Dhabi, Apr 5: UAE’s top business tycoon, philanthropist and patron of several Associations Dr. Bavaguthu Raghuram Shetty (B.R. Shetty) MD and CEO of NMC Group was felicitated by registered Associations of UAE along with other associations and well wishers of UAE on April 04, 2009 at the National Theatre, Abu Dhabi.
The felicitation ceremony was organized in honour of Dr. B.R.Shetty on being conferred with the the prestigious PADMA SHREE Award by the Government of India on 31st March 2009 at New Delhi by H.E. Pratibha Devisingh Patil – President of India, in recognition for his towering achievements in business and his unending journey espousing the cause of social initiatives.
Shetty, foundly called as BR, has been an icon among the Indian Community, an outstanding personality and a pillar of strength t to the Indian Community and others. His all round achievements are so much that it cannot be measured in terms of words. His love for his country and for his people are immense.
The programme commenced with the welcome dance by children K.V. Prakash compered the proceedings. H.E. Shk. Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan – Minister of Higher Education was the Chief Guest. The event was attended by Ambassadors, high level dignitaries, cross section of UAE society and large number of friends and well wishers and members of various associations.
In his speech the chief guest highlighted the achievements of B.R. Shetty and his contributions towards UAE and the Indian Community. His hard work and dedication helped to achieve this highest award of being conferred on by the President of India. He praised the contribution of Indians as a whole and his love for that country. He congratulated Shetty on behalf of people of UAE , Indian community and other communities.
In his reply Shetty thanked those who have been instrumental in getting him this award. He attributed his success to his family, who always stood behind him and the people who had assisted him to obtain success. He recalled his humble beginning and the hard times he had gone through. He thanked his parents for his modest upbringing. He explained his success story and path he had treaded on. He further said nothing is impossible if one works hard and sincerely. He dedicated his success to his family and the people.
It can be recalled Shetty was awarded the highest honour by the UAE Government in 2005 the highest civilian award for contribution to the development of the community and the cause of the Emirate.
Shetty has been a receipient of various awards the others being the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award by the Government of Karnataka in 1997, the highest social recognition for the constructive and creative contribution to the development of the state within and outside India. He was also the receipient of Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award by The Government of India in 2007, for outstanding contribution for the cause of NRI’s, The first Gulf Udyog Rathna in 2006.
Lifetime Achievement Award, by the International Medical Integration Council and the Optimal Healthcare Group (India) in 2005 for contribution to the healthcare sector among others.
Shetty was felicitated by most of the associations based in UAE with flower bouquets, mementoes, and shawls.
The colourful programme concluded around 11:30 pm with national anthem of both countries.
