Bantwal, May 6: Public in town were puzzled to see traffic police, who always hold stick and whistle to control the traffic, walking in line on the street at around 7 am on Sunday, May 5.

The traffic police were walking in a disciplined manner wearing khaki pants and white t-shirts. This team was walking from the Melkar traffic police station to Narahari Sadashiv temple.

It is learnt that superintendent of police (SP) Lakshmi Prasad has informed the respective police station heads to involve the police personnel, men and women, who do not get time to give attention towards their health due to workload during the week, in some sort of leisure activity like trekking, walking or Yoga. So Melkar traffic sub-inspector (SI) Manjunath took the lead and led the team to the temple and then to trekking.

This is a unique attempt by the SP of the district to increase the mental and physical fitness of the police force.
