Mangaluru, May 6: "There is fierce competition in today's world. Many talents do not come to light because of this stiff competition and lack of opportunities. At this stage, only unique and out of the box camps organized by associations like Mandd Sobhann give some ray of hope. Here the young talents are sharpened. Khomir Camp is an example for this," said NRI entrepreneur and Konkani-Tulu movie actor Ron Rodrigues London.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 209th 'Monthly Theatre' at Kalangann in the city on Sunday, May 5.
The participants of this camp Samuel Sequeira, Anita D'Cunha, Disha Pearl Mascarenhas and Melroy Lobo shared their experience of the camp. All of them were honoured with CDs and certificates.
Participants who were selected as the best camper in respective sections like Olita Pinto (singing), Melroy Lobo (dance) and Ria Sonal Lobo (drama) were given a cash award of Rs 2,000 each. Olita Pinto who was selected as the overall best camper was given a cash award of Rs 3,000.
Nihal Tauro, who has made waves in the singing fieldm was felicitated on the occasion with the title 'Konkani Gayan Nekethr'.
Eric Ozario, director of the camp, Vikas Lasrado, Manish Pinto, Amrin D'Souza, Shravan Baliga, Savita Saldanha, Flavia Rodgrigues all from the drama section, Rahul Pinto, Velany Goveas and Jeevan Siddhi, all from the dance section, Jason Lobo, Diyal D'Souza, Sherwin D'Souza and Jaison Sequeira, all from the singing division and Vitori Karkal and Flavia Rodrigues who taught Konkani were also felicitated on the occasion.
Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann Eric Ozario, president Luvi Pinto and secretary Kishore Fernandes were present on the dais.
Group singing, dance presentation, poem reciting and short drama 'Prakriti Naash-Munshyanche Satyanaash' were presented by the children.
The stage programme was compered by Vitori Karkal. The cultural programme was compered by Diya Mascarenhas and Ashil Mascarenhas.
