Sharjah, Apr 6: Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) celebrated its Annual Sports Day 2009, at the Al Thiqah Club, Sharjah.
On this fun-filled occasion, Bearys from different parts of the UAE assembled here and participated in the events whole-heartedly in large numbers, in a spirit of community development.
Dr B K Yusuf, BCF president, Bu Ahmed, manager, Al Thiqah Club, Sharjah, A Mohiuddin, managing director, Worldwide Shipping Inc, Haji S Abbas, treasurer, District Congress Committee, Mangalore DK, Prabhakar Ambalthere, founder of Ambalthere Vision, Ashok Shetty, industrialist, M E Moolur, vice-president, BCF, Altaf, Diamond Real Estate, who participated in the function as guests of honour, were felicitated on behalf of BCF.
Various sports events were conducted on the occasion and they all were very interesting and exciting. The young and the old alike took part in the events with lot of enthusiasm and spirit of fun. It seemed as if they had bid adieu to the tensions of life and work, at least for that moment.
There were lots of games like volleyball, cricket, tug-of-war, Kabbadi, running races, balloon race, relay race, four corners, musical chairs, long jump, high jump, sack race, etc. Many teams participated in these games and participated in them in the true sportsmanship spirit.
The Cricket Trophy was won by Karama Friends and the second position went to Mepha Group. Eagle Kanangar once again won the volleyball tournament and the runner-up position went to Badriya Friends. Football match was conducted by BCF for the first time. Badriya Friends came out victorious in this event and the Uchila Brothers were relegated to the second position. All the audience enjoyed observing the football match tremendously.
The special attraction of the day was the Cookery Competition, which had a variety of mouth watering traditional Beary dishes and in addition to that, there was a more entertaining game in the form of Karela eating competition for the ladies. It was indeed an entertaining event for the children and the adults alike, as everyone enjoyed it from the start till the end.
The BCF Sports Day was open for all the Bearys in the United Arab Emirates.
The sports ground was equipped with all the necessary facilities such as flood lights, play areas, seating arrangements, toilets etc for the event.
There was a short musical concert by Karavali Music. Songs rendered by Haneef Perliya (basti basti parbat parbat…) and M B Akbar (chu kar mere man ko…) were wonderful and the audience gave a big round of applause to the singers.
The representative of Gulf Kannadigas.com was also present during the BCF’s sports day to cover the event.
BCF thanked the event chairperson K M Ashraf, vice chairpersons Shahda and Latif Mulky and other members such as Ashraf Shaikh, Iqbal (MEPHA), Sameer K S, Haneef Perliya, Mumtaz, Zeenat Ashraf, Ibrahim Mulky, Monnakka, Ibrahim from Dubal, Afeeq, Toufiq, Sajpa, M B Akbar etc for their dedication and hard work for the success of the event. The BCF also thanked all the referees for various events for sparing their valuable time and attending this event.
Dr B K Yusuf presented bouquets to all the delegates as a mark of respect and in recognition of the work done by them for the development of the Bearys. All other guests were felicitated by offering bouquets as a mark of respect for attending this event.
The lunch in the form of Biryani was provided to all the people. Around 350 Bearys attended this year's Sports Day.
Dr B K Yusuf, president, BCF, expressed the opinion, addressing the audience that the sports gatherings like these help to bring about a sense of belongingness, besides bring out hidden talents of the people taking part in the events. Those who excel here can also be deputed for representing in various sports events being organized around the world, he said. Dr Kaup announced the list of winners and M E Moolur proposed vote of thanks to all the guests and Bearys for their presence and wholehearted cooperation.
The fact that weather for the day was pleasant with a little bit of drizzling and cool breeze, made the event more enjoyable. The cool climate helped those who participated in the events from getting exhausted.
