Court absolves AAP's Somnath Bharti in Domestic violence Case

New Delhi, May 7: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday has given a clean chit to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti, against whom his wife had filed a domestic violence case.

The court has found that Bharti and his wife Lipika Mitra are living happily together and hence allowed Bharti's plea to clear the criminal case. The court also noted that his wife has no objection if Bharti is cleared of the charges.

The police lodged an FIR against Bharti on September 9, 2015 regarding a complaint registered by his wife Mitra to the Delhi Commission for Women that he was allegedly subjecting her to domestic violence and trying to kill her.

The court had earlier allowed Mr. Bharti’s wife to withdraw her petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted to him in the domestic violence case in view of the settlement of their marital dispute.
