Mangalore: Rashid Malbari Police Custody extended

Mangalore, Apr 7: The police custody of Rashid Malbari, a close associate of underworld criminal Chota Shakil of Dawood Ibrahim gang, arrested by the DCIB special team on March 29, was extended by three days on Monday April 6. His police custody had expired on Monday.

On expiry of police custody granted to Malbari and his accomplices, they were produced in the Third Junior Magistrate First Class court here. Meanwhile, the Panambur policemen approached the court with a request to hand over Malbari to their possession for interrogation relating to a case. They were granted body warrant and consequently, got the custody of Malbari, who faces cases against him in various states. His present police custody will end on April 9. His accomplices were remanded to judicial custody.

Rashid faces charge of murdering Prashant and John in Bykampady in 1998, supported by his associate Mastaan. The Panambur police sought Rashid's custody in relation to this double murder. Allegedly, Malbari murdered the duo, on the suspicion that another dreaded underworld criminal Chota Rajan had hired them to finish him off.
