Udupi, May 8: Brahmavar’s largest indoor stadium was inaugurated at Brahmavar Sports Club in Heranje, Heroor Village near here on Tuesday, May 8.
K Raghupati Bhat, MLA, Udupi inaugurated the Indoor stadium, including badminton and tennis court.
In his address Bhat said, “A much-awaited dream of Brahmavar Sports Club came true today. It is a well-planned stadium and I am glad for that. Athletics and sports are my passions and badminton is my favourite sport. Brahmavar gets a large auditorium too. Earlier, a number of outdoor games were organized here. This club has created its own benchmark in supporting sports and sportspersons since many years.”
“There is no much distance to Udupi from Brahmavar. There is a probability of these two places becoming twin cities within next five to ten years, because of the pace at which they are developing. There is a need of a recreational club in Udupi, but not possible to construct the same, due lack of availability of land,” added Bhat.
Brahmavar sports club facilitated hostel for the sports students. This stadium is a contribution for them.
Bhat suggested the club committee to appoint a coach and he will make sure in providing facilities from the Karnataka Badminton Association and Udupi Badminton association. Earlier many sports talents were not able to come into mainstream because of unavailability of trained coaches.
Bhat further said, “Our own district's sportsperson is shining as the number one player at state level in the sport of Badminton and it is a proud moment for all of us.”
Bhat also assured that he will put his effort to release Rs 10 lac from the MLA fund.
Guest of honour of Dr Kishore Kumar K C, director of Physical Education, Mangalore University said, “In these years, Udupi is leading in the sports field. It has all the sports facilities in comparison to other districts of Karnataka. BSC has been providing good facilities to budding talents. Hence, the club should get state level recognition. Let the sport of tennis get even more encouragement. Today's children are stuck to mobile games. Let them come out from that and make use of these facilities to the maximum.”
Guest Madhukar M Shetty, honorary secretary, Bunt Sangha, Bengaluru said, “People are wasting their precious ‘today’ by thinking about ‘tomorrow’. Just enjoy the right moments of today. Let the children develop reading habits, Yoga and build sound mind and body. If mind and stomach are kept clean, one can live a healthy life.”
President of the club Chandrashekhar Hedge presided over the programme. In his presidential address he said, “The two badminton courts are contributed donors Suprith Shetty and Pramod Shetty. BSC is planning to extend its facilities and would like to construct a 25 meter swimming pool, a 1,500 seat open-air theatre, club house and other facilities in days to come. There are 225 members in the sports club.”
The indoor stadium was built at a cost of Rs 60 lac on two acres of land in Heranje, Heroor village. The stadium includes two badminton courts, a table tennis court, carrom, chess, and a 600-seat capacity hall.
Chandrashekhar welcomed the gathering and Gregory D’Silva, general secretary of the sports club rendered the vote of thanks.
