Bride escapes with lover, surrenders in Jharkhand


Ranchi, May 13 (IANS): A newly wed woman escaped with her lover while on way to her husband's home and later surrendered before the police, here on Monday.

According to the police, Bandhan Oraon, a resident of the Khuti district in Jharkhand, got married to a girl from Ranchi on Sunday. He was returning home with bride on Sunday night, when Asim Minz, the woman's lover, stopped their vehicle in the Dhruva area of Ranchi and escaped with the bride.

Oraon lodged a complaint at the Dhruva police station that he and his family members were also thrashed by Minz's friends. Following the complaint, Minz and the bride surrendered at the Itki police station on Monday morning.

The bride and the groom's families reached the police station and tried to convince the bride to return to her husband. But she refused saying she was married against her wishes.

While the two sides were still trying to resolve the issue, the bride was adamant on living with her lover.
