Biggest party should lead government: Congress

New Delhi, May 17 (IANS): Holding that the biggest political party should get a chance to lead the government, the Congress on Thursday expressed hope that it will emerge as such after the results of Lok Sabha elections are out on May 23.

"Indian National Congress certainly believes and, subject to the final outcome on May 23, that we will be the biggest political party in the country with the blessings of the people of India. Naturally, the biggest political party should get a chance to lead. However, what will happen on May 23, I am not going to pre-empt and pre-judge today," Congress Communications in charge Randeep Singh Surjewals told reporters here.

He said various opposition parties will get together and take an appropriate call on government formation after the results.

Asked what if no party gets a simple majority in Lok Sabha, Surjewala said the norm is fairly well established, that "whoever has the largest number in pre-poll alliance is normally called first, as laid down by the Supreme Court."

Why is the Congress speaking in different voices? Mr Gulam Nabi Azad says that Congress is not very particular about the PMs post. Now the congress spokesperson is speaking something else. Why issue confusing statements without forethought? People will laugh at such statements and attribute motives.

I am 100% sure it will be Mr Modi once again. Congress has its chance 2024 if and only young guns like Jyothiraditya Scindia or Sachin Pilot are given the chance to lead the Party. Otherwise it may be difficult then too.

In Karnataka they said who has number shud get chance. Appreciate confidence but really don’t know how Congress will be the largest party! Where is their presence! UP it’s sp+ bsp, Bihar main party Rjd, in Gujrat Rajasthan mp Bjp has strong fight, WB it’s Tmc n Bjp, south congress present nominal, north east almost finish. Then from were Congress brings seats! ..Bjp trying hard to recoup losses by trying to get from Wb n Orissa. Bjp will loose seats but it will be single largest party irrespective of they form govt or not.

rightly said. Kangress has no base at all except Punjab and Kerala and some part in Karnataka in biggest states. How they dream about becoming single largest party.
this time hope they will be promoted to biggest opposition party.

righly said. congress cant be single largest which has base only on few smalled states like punjab and kerala. Italy madam will settle this time for opposition leader which can be awarded as promotion from last term where they did not get opposition position also.

do not treat this as my over confident comment but real fact.
