Mangalore, Apr 16:
The decaying body of a dead man was found packed in a box and placed by the roadside near the Nehru Maidan in the city on Thursday April 16.

The identify of the murdered person could not be established, as his body was found to have been decayed a lot. Some people, who come to play in Nehru Maidan in the early hours everyday, grew suspicious because of the foul smell emanating from the said box. From the preliminary information gathered, the body appears to be that of a roadside helmet seller.

The body was found packed in a box, on the footpath located adjacent to DAR Police ground, where a person used to sell helmets. It was packed in a carton box and helmets were found stuffed inside the box too. As helmets had been arranged over the box neatly, the passersby did not notice the murder till the box started to give out unbearable stench.

The policemen said, the fact that the body was stuffed in a box makes it out to be a clear case of murder. The miscreants who were involved with this murder, had planned to hide the body in the box, duly covered by helmets, they noted.

It is suspected that the murder would have happened at least two days ago, as the body was   found to have been decayed thoroughly and was spreading a bad odour.

Pandeshwar policemen in the city have initiated the identification process of the murdered person and started investigation of the case. The body was taken to the mortuary in Wenlock Hospital here.

Police here again made mistake of taking the body without the help of forensic personnel.  They must be held responsible for destroying evidence........... please send one more plea to CBI for destroying the murder evidence of Padma Priya in Udupi. No murder case is yet solved when politicians are involved .  The body could be of some innocent a victim of political hate.

Mr Ramesh, Since you are living in Mangalore and I am not, you know better. I only read comments giving a communal tone to this incident which is a law and order problem. If you think that this is due to police negligence you might be right, but giving it a communal tone when our city is already simmering due to the recent communal incidents and moral policing, was wrong I felt, which is why i wrote my earlier comment.

Murders in this coastal city is not a new incident. However, the quantum only has increased. Not only in M'lore, but, every where. Instead of making allegation & counter-allegations, silly comments, has any one seriously thinking what is the reason behind all these occurences ? Very simple, every one is after accumulating wealth (by hook OR Crook)by overnight & naturally, no ethics in practical life. Professionals are minting in thier own way as does the criminals & others.

Rajesh Naik, Mumbai It seems you have sniffed more smell and variety of it while travelling in local trains than me in my entire life. If you feel Mangalore Police are incompetent why don't you go there to take care of Mangalore from local police yourself.. I am equally concerned About Mangalore and Mumbai as well.

M Bhat your mind is not sick, It is the habit of all Mumbaiiets having that smell every day while traveling in trains. Mumbai and Mangalore are two diffrent cities we must take care of Mangalore and try to make the things right by having strict administration for fighting crime. Consider here the police are not efective here because how many cases unsolved since 2008. Mangalore is not safe any more.!!!!

No one knows where the murder did happen but would be a great deal if investigators could locate the murderers soon. Will pray for that!

I dont understand why are certain commenters acting so paranoid about it...we still do not know what is the cause and who is behind the murder ? Please understand that mangalore is no more a sleepy town...with a growing city comes growing problems...even in big cities abroad have problems...regardless of whichever govt rules ....crime related problems will occur....there are so many cases that go unnoticed....this is getting noticed...because of the peculiar way of death....

So many silly comments. It is murder committed by a rival and such murders take place all over the world. The Police will investigate and solve it in due course.  The police can be blamed if they are not able to control riots, mob violence, moral policing, law and order but you cannot expect a policeman to be sitting in each house or each nook and corner of a city.

Sorry to see a death of a person in a gruesome way. Police need to be agressive to find the mudrer. People always like to settle in Mangalore for their retirement and these kind of things make us scary.. God bless his soul and help his family to come out from this truama.

Its really a very sad incident. I should not say this, but now I cant see anyone blaming the govt. If a non-Hindu dies, it is very shameful to note that people add communal color to it and blame the BJP govt stating that minorities are not safe. This is not correct. People should not be biased. May his soul rest in peace.
