Panaji: Nigerian held with drugs worth Rs 54.5 lac

Panaji, May 20: The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Goa Police arrested a Nigerian national at Siolim in North Goa on Sunday for being in possession of 420 gm of ecstasy power, 1 kg of ganja, and 115 gm of ecstasy tablets worth Rs 54.5 lac.

The accused, identified as Chukwudi Johnson Ezechukwu (34), was arrested from his rented premises after his name started appearing in drug peddling circles for past couple of weeks. The police said he does not have any valid documents to stay in the country.


According to the police, the accused peddled drugs in Siolim based on which it was decided to conduct a search of the premises where he used to stay. The raid was conducted under the overall supervision of superintendent of police (ANC) Utkrisht Prasoon under the guidance of deputy superintendent of police (ANC) Mahesh Gaonkar. Drugs seized by police include Ganja, Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) commonly known as Ecstacy, Cocaine, Charas, LSD Liquid, LSD Paper, Heroin, Amphetamine, Ketamine, Dimethyltryptamine (DMT).

As per TOI report, an official from the Anti-Narcotics cell said, “Synthetic drugs are sold in Goa during peak tourist season, when foreigners are in the state.” Police have registered the case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
