Riyadh, Apr 22:
"Ormmeppad"(getting-together) is the pure Beary word widely used as a watchword by `Katipalla Muslim Youth Association' (KMYA) to make their Get-Together-2009 more attractive and out of the ordinary. “Ormmeppad” was effectively organized at Al-Rushd resort in Riyadh, capital city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.   Mangaloreans in various parts of the Kingdom including from different communities have actively participated in the Gathering to make the 20th anniversary of the Association grand and successful. Inspite of heavy rainfall, “the Beary” slogan was really successful in bringing together of all people from undivided Dakshina Kannada and neighbouring districts, who are scattered all over the Kingdom. More than one thousand people had partaken in the Gala that started at 9 p.m. and ended up at 3.30 a.m.

Having provided with delicious Mangalorean festive food & paayasam, KMYA arranged Qira’ath competition, Spot quiz-included of Islamic & other general knowledge etc. A lot of cultural events like chair-games, Housie-Housie, tug of war, gunny bag race & chair-game for the children etc, were also conducted. The very interesting and eye-catching pastime was the long-sized samooli eating (Bread-Eating) competition that made everyone to stand in their tiptoes to see the scene that was showed on the raised-dais, while the audience sat in the chairs below the stage. About 15-20 youngsters have taken pleasure by keenly participating in the competition. Separate events were also arranged for ladies and children with fabulous prizes like T.V., Mobiles etc.

KMYA is a non-profit social and community organization that came into existence in 1989 mainly for catering the educational needs of and supporting for the needy and poor families of the community in Katipalla and neighboring places. Keeping the socio-educational conditions of the village in view, the birth-pang of community services of Katipalla youths in Saudi Arabia delivered the Association, and named it as KMYA, with its wing in Dammam also. Despite that, KMYA has done other services and works for the welfare of the community, especially the poor section of Muslim society.

Ormmeppad-2009 was kicked off with the Qur’aan recitation and welcome speech by Kannada writer, Abdul Qayyoom Katipalla. Zainuddin Katipalla magnetized the attention of the audience with his melodious Beary song-“Nanghalo Raayame Katipallame”.   Mahadev Shetty recited a thought-provocative poem-“Nama Anchillatth, Inchillatth”.  Bhasker Uchil was on the stage to present his piece of laughter.

Khasim Ahmed, president, JF-Riyadh, Vijaya Rai, president, Karavali Welfare Association, Riyadh (KWAR), Royston Prabhu, general secretary, KWAR, Rajesh Kumar, coordinator, KWAR, DKMO (OKKOOTTA) Riyadh president, Abbas Uchil, JF-Ameer Nawaz Gurpur, Jayanth Salian, Arun D’Souza, president of Angann Konkannichem, Riyadh,  Ameeruddin Hassan, president, KMYA,  Abdul Aziz, president, KMYA-Dammam Unit, Abdul Basheer (NCMS), Abdul Lathief Idris, Haneef Bikarnakatte, Haneef Panambur, Abdul Jabbar,  Parvez Ali, Abdul Aziz , Shabbir Ahmed, Basheer,  Zubair S.U. were present on the stage programme.
