Hours after Jaitley opts out of Cabinet, Modi visits his residence

New Delhi, May 30 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at his residence, hours after he opted out of the Union Cabinet citing health conditions.

Modi, who is set to be sworn in as the Prime Minister for a second time on Thursday, arrived at Jaitley's residence here at 8.55 p.m.

The meeting between the two leaders lasted about 25 minutes. It is learnt that Modi urged the former Finance MInister to reconsider his decision to keep out from the new Cabinet.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of the letter written by Jaitley to Modi earlier in the day asking him not to include him in the new cabinet, citing health issues.

"During the last 18 months, I have had some serious health challenges. My doctors have enabled me to emerge out of most of them," Jaitley said in a letter to Modi.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader said he had already communicated his request to Modi before he left for Kedarnath.

"I am writing to you formally to request you that I should be allowed a reasonable time to myself, my treatment and my health and therefore not be a part of any responsibility, for the present in the new government," he said.

Jaitley said that even though he was able to discharge the responsibilities assigned to him during the Lok Sabha election campaign, "I would in future, for some time, like to keep away from any responsibility. This will enable me to concentrate on my treatment and health.

There are lot of talented people in the pool to replace Mr. Jaitley.

Mr. Jaitley was a smart trouble shooter and a multi tasker.

Mr. Piyush Goyal, Mr. Jayanth Sinha, Mr. Suresha Prabhu and even Mr. Gadkari can fill the post.

Mr. Subramanya Swamy is also a economist but bit radical and difficult to control.

This is the problem when people vote for just one man. The country has voted for Modi and all and sundry - lallu panju - have been elected just because they come under Modi. Now see the result. Modi is not going to come and attend to local issues. They have to be dealt by the locally elected people most of whom didn't deserve to win in the first place. How can you expect one man, however great he may be, to address all the issues at the national as well as local level? Just not possible. Development is bound to suffer. The economy is stuttering and it is feared that our growth might plummet to 6%. What more do you want?

There is a serious dearth of talented people in the BJP. With the exception of just a few, the others are just there to fill the numbers, as a result of which Modi has to do the bulk of the work.

It is humanly impossible for one person to carry so much load on his shoulders. If Arun Jaitley refuses to join the cabinet, I feel Modi could perhaps look at Piyush Goyal or Suresh Prabhu or Jayant Sinha.

They are about the only three who can be expected to do a fairly good job. Other than these people, the likes of Ravi Shankar Prasad or Nalin Kateel or Shobha are just there to lick Modi's boots.

Good One Sunita. Totally agree with you.

I want those who have voted to these foolish MPs to suffer in the coming five years so much that they should know the price of electing such useless people as MPs.
In Delhi even one religious leader is elected as BJP MP. He himself is surprised!!

The sad part is that Congress has all the people with required qualification to suit any ministry in central government. But the BJP has the goberment but no people. What a travesty?
