Mangalore, Apr 26: Some personnel of the Kerala State Reserve Police were arrested at Panambur beach by the local police for allegedly beating women and other visitors at the beach on Saturday April 25.

At least 13 constables including head constables were arrested after they turned violent as their demand to go on a speed boat was refused.

Two policemen including one assistant sub-inspector of Panambur police station and a media photographer were injured in the incident. Some of the visitors and women who were attacked have suffered significant injuries.

Following injuries to the policemen who went to mediate, extra police personnel were deployed to the spot. Two buses were also seized by the Panambur police.

The Kerala Reserve Police from Thrissur headquarters who had been deployed in Bantwal on election duty had come from Bangalore after the first phase of elections in the state. They had been to the city and the beach during their hours of leisure.

The arrested policemen were taken to Wenlock Hospital to be tested for alcohol consumption.

These arrested policemen had also targeted the beach supervision committee members and the lifeguards.

Yathish  Baikampady, chief, beach  supervision committee, said that the police were almost incoherent and were trying to impress their official status on everyone.

Briefing about the incident, he added “They created a nuisance by about traveling in the speed boat with their team only. But the speed boat had been already booked by seven members including five women. The policemen argued that the others be made to get down. When the staff of the boating company refused to do this, the policemen started  to forcibly pull down those who were in the boat. When the people opposed this move, they brought lathis from their bus and began hitting people.”

The Kerala policemen were about 50 in all and came in two official buses. Some of them managed to escape after the incident when the Panambur police appeared on the scene.

Panambur sub-inspector Pramod Kumar said that information obtained so far indicated that most of the offenders were drunk and thus, had been sent to be tested for alcohol consumption.

Baikampady has lodged a complaint against the truant policemen as have some of the injured women.

ATLAST THE STATE GOVT HAS WOKEN UP AND THE HOME MINISTER APPEARED ON TV TO SAY THAT 9000 POLICEMEN WILL BE INDUCTED SOON IN THIS STATE. I AM HAPPY THAT FEW PEOPLE WILL GET JOBS AND FEW FAMILIES WILL BE BENEFITTED THEREAFTER.SECURITY, LAW AND ORDER ARE THE PRIME MATTER FOR ANY STATE. OUR POLICEMEN WILL GET LITTLE RELIEF HEREAFTER.

WHY SHOULD OUR STATE GOVERNMENT DEPLOY POLICE OF NEIGHBOURING STATES, WHEN THERE IS ACTUAL NEED OF MORE PERSONNEL AT HOME. THE POLITICAL SYSTEM OF THIS STATE KNOWS THE COMPULSION.EVERY TIME ,NEW GOVERNMENT ASSUMES OFFICE , NEW GOVT CARS ARE ON ROADS. POLITICIANS LACK WILL AND EMPHASISE OTHERS TO CURTAIL EXPENDITURE .THESE PERSONS ENJOY PLATOONS OF POLICE FORCE AND VEHICLES WHILE THEY MOVE OUT. ELECTION COMMISSION IS AN AUTONOMOUS INDEPENDENT BODY VALUATING SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS EVERY TIME.IF THAT COMMISSION ITSELF ENDORSES THE VIEW , WHY SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS ON EMPLOYMENT CREATION? GOVERNMENT SHOULD RAISE MORE MOBILE CIVIL FORCE FOR EACH DISTRICT.

MORE INDUCTION OF PEOPLE,MORE CREATION OF JOBS AND SECURITY FOR ALL. WHY SHOULD WE FEAR ON NAXALITES, ANTISOCIAL ELEMENTS, TERRORISTS ETC. IF WE HAVE GIVEN THE CIVIL FORCES, SOPHISTICATED WEAPONS AND EXTRA CO-PERSONNEL? POLITICIANS CAN CURTAIL THEIR LAVISH EXPENDITURE OF PUBLIC MONEY, THEREBY GIVING MORE RELIEF TO PEOPLE.

This incident is rare among the rarest. Here one can notice 2 points. 1) Fence ate up the crop. 2)No one can escape from the long arms of the law (including law protectors). Hats off to panambur police specially pramodh kumar (SI) for taking immediate action against the offenders.

This can be a trap to avoid outsiders during election so that the locals can do what ever they like. Otherwise why 5 women & 2 men insisted on travelling in the same boat, get into quarrel be beaten and immediately local Police arrive and put the outsiders under bar? Our Police I am sure are not so quick to respond.

No practical training in morality and ethics, No personal calibre, skill and ability but the corrupt system and undue influence to get the job of protecting the public is the main reason which make these guys at times "Wild Bulls" in human shape. They are ever least bothered about the Human Beings to whom they themselves belong to.

Don''t you see their inhuman behaviour and ill treatment with suspects and accused every time every where in India? Don''t blame or taunt at Kerala, because they are the members only Indian Police Community, nothing else.

Yes ofcourse, there were and are some noble souls in this community too, but they can''t change the system with having only two options: 1) adjust with the existing system 2) pull out yourself from this system. and it is not surprising that many of them opt for the second one!

SO ONE CAN''T EXPECT MORE THAN THIS. THEIR VSIT TO SUCH PLACE INDICATES THAT THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY CAME HERE! AND WHAT WAS THEIR RESPONSIBILTIES... THIS DUTY ALSO THEY MIGHT HAVE GOT IT BY SPECIAL INFLUENCE! STILL THEY ARE BETTER BECAUSE THEY DID NOT RAPE THESE WOMEN. ONE CAN EXPECT EVEN BELOW THIS LEVELS!

Mangalore - a quiet city in south karnataka - is being painted bad -  this and other bad and rather depressing news spreads worldover - therefore the media should not  indulge in bad publicity - as it will only harm our own people and state. With regards to the malayalees employees of the law, being anti-social and taking the law in their own hands - the citizens of Mangalore must ensure that the Karnataka government puts all of them behind bars for a good 12 months so that they and any one else for that matter, who take the law into their own hands - must be made to understand the price for such unruly public behaviour. Unless, our governance is tough - no malayalee, no madrasi, and no kannadiga will ever dare to act as anti-social elements in any manner. Public Places must be monitored and patrolled at all times by young, athletic, trained and armed policeman and not ordinary peasants in uniforms with sticks! Take a good look at our pathetic looking Policemen -they are a far cry from men of any phsique, leave alone any training in self defence and handling an assault rifle. They can''t even defend themselves, leave alone defending the public. May God protect Karnataka and India against all evil elements in India.

When Police forget that their duty is to PROTECT the people,  most stringent action should be taken against them. Hats off to Karnataka Police and Police of Panambur Police Station for apprehending the culprits. Kerala Government should relive them from their duty with immediate action....what a irony ...they came to maintain law and order during the election process ...!

The Police Dept is called Aarakshana Pede, where is the rakshane (protection) to the people if they behave in this manner. Sheer shame ones that are meant for the security and protection of the people go about exercising their power in this henious and derogatory manner.

There are genuine police officers who are dedicated to thier profession, these hoodlums are a disgrace to those efficient officers and should be dealt with strictly.

A real shame on the part of Kerala Police. Errant policemen involved in this incident should be dealt with properly as per law by the Kerala State home dept. Kerala Policemen have spoiled the name of their state by behaving in an irresponsible manner with local women, in a different state that also being deputed for election duty. Its pity they missed to enjoy the beauty of Mangalore beach and the hospitality of Mangaloreans.

I feel so proud to see so many of our brothers at the Panambur Police Station, defending their folks - their town, district folks. God bless them and hats off to our Karnataka Police force. Three cheers to them and God bless them for defending us (for a change). We need such unity.

Police using their force - drunk or not, and that too, not in their district or town, but elsewhere.? Make Karnataka/Mangalore famous but not in this manner. It is a shame. May God protect you all and your families is our prayers and blessings in return. We will bless but not curse.

Vow, so, even the Police started thinking that S. Kanara Dt. (Mangalore- as Perambur is next door) can be kept in the news. Good, but not kept in the news in this manner. Vow, Kerala, your Police are real daring. Why not put them on duty on the India/Pak border. They would fit in there. What cheek!! We Kannadigas are united too.
