Bantwal, May 31: "The threat of assault and death given to the Lok Sabha candidate of the Congress party Mithun Rai should be considered seriously. The act of the accused is condemnable. It is learnt through police sources that political pressure from the elected representatives is being put on the police in favour of the accused. Police should discharge their duties without succumbing to any pressure," said former minister Ramanath Rai at a press conference.
Ramanath Rai further said, "Karthik Kumble, who has given the death threat, is the first accused in the double murder that took place in the border district. He is roaming in and around Bantwal. So the matter has to be considered seriously. If one observes the accused in the murder cases that have taken place earlier of people like Sharath, Jalil Karopadi, Harish, Ashraf and Nazeer, the people belong to two communal organizations. The lawyers who defend such activists are also nominated by the party. Not a single worker of the Congress party is involved in these cases."
"False propaganda is done against me that I have stopped the rice for the school. I have not done this. I have saved Rs four crore of Kollur temple that was given by the devotees. For the same reason the blessings of Kollur Devi is on me," added Rai.
Ramanath further accused the BJP and said, "The gang that was celebrating the victory of BJP candidate in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections has gone to the house of Premalata, president of Badakabailu gram panchayat when the male members of the family were not in the house. They have burst crackers. In addition, they have hurled expletives at the inmates of the house and have threatened them with murder. I vehemently condemn this act."
"As there is pressure on the police to close all these issues without inquiry, an appeal will be submitted to the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Bantwal sub-division," said Ramanath Rai.
Ramanath Rai concluded by saying, "People, who were saying that there were disturbances when Ramanath Rai was in power and now it is not happening, should note that who is doing disturbance in society. They belong to two communal organizations. Out of this one is the subsidiary of a national party."
Baby Kunder, president, Bantwal Block Congress and Sudhir Kumar Shetty, president, Panemangaluru Block Congress were present.
