Abu Dhabi, Jun 1: Prosecutors of Abu Dhabi Criminal Court charged a 30 year old GCC national, an employee of a major raffle firm, of cheating customers during promotional raffle draws by fraudulently presenting coupons bearing names of his relatives for winning vehicles and other prizes.
The accused was in charge of conducting the raffle draws for customers by picking winning coupons from the draw-box. He secretly hided his relatives' coupons in his pocket and during the draw he made it appear as if it is from the draw box. He then announced the winners for various prizes including cars and cash.
Official court documents stated that the man had so far given out winning coupons for four Nissan Patrols and four air tickets to his alleged relatives.
A prosecution witness said "During the time of the draw, he pulled out the coupons he had allegedly prepared from inside the small bag and made it appear like he had taken the vouchers from the draw box and read them out as winners."
Prosecutors had charged him with deceiving his employer and cheating customers. After admitting the crime, the accused told the court that he had paid back the sums of money he had fraudulently taken through the raffle draws and also returned other prizes to his employer and organizers of the draws.
