Cong Describes Advani as 'Night Watchman' for Modi

New Delhi, Apr 29: Using cricketing terminology in the midst of IPL fever, Congress on Wednesday described BJP's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani as a "night watchman" for Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

"Advani is nothing but a night watchman for Modi. How long will the night watchman (Advani) bat is in grave doubt. How long will the real batsman in waiting (Modi) allow the night watchman to bat is also in grave doubt," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters at the AICC here.

Alleging that the BJP was in control of Modi, the Congress leader claimed Advani had become a mask for someone else (Modi).

Singhvi accused the BJP of raising non issues and forgetting the impressive performance of the Congress-led UPA government on all fronts like economy, security etc.

"They raise an issue like inflation forgetting that both the wholesale and retail price index are the lowest at this point of time," said Singhvi.

Referring to the cancellation of the Davis cup tie by Australia, Singhvi said instead of criticising this decision, the saffron party was attacking the Congress.

"The cache of gimmickry the BJP is indulging in is endless," the spokesman added.
