New Delhi, June 4: The government has decided to keep a stock of fifty thousand tonnes onions as onion prices are likely to shoot up in the near future.
There is drought in several parts in the country and drinking water also has become scarce. The prices of necessary household grocery have been rising. Onion prices are also facing northwards.
Prices of onions in Lasal Gaon wholesale market of Maharashtra that was 11 rupees per kg have gone up to 29 rupees on Tuesday.
A senior official from food ministry said that the government at the centre has stored 50 thousand tonnes onions.
