Mumbai based man arrested with old currency at Thivim railway station

Thivim, Jun 8: Railway Police wing of Goa Police on Friday seized old currency worth around Rs two lac from a Panvel-Mumbai based man who was heading toward Mumbai by train.

Police apprehended Lavu Chavan, 35, who was found with a bagful of cash of old notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination.

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited’s public relation manager Baban Ghatge said that the search was conducted at Thivim railway station in Goa on the train plying between Karmali (Goa) to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Mumbai.

The passenger was travelling in the general compartment of the train, he said.

Ghatge said that the currency has been seized by police and further legal action is being initiated.
