Indore, Jun 13: Patriotism reached a whole new level at BJP-controlled Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Wednesday, when the members mixed up ‘Jana gana mana’ recital with ‘Vande Mantaram.’ The video documenting this mix-up has gone viral. The Mayor Malini Gaur, a local BJP MLA was also visible in the video.
The assembly of representatives and others concerned was in light of the civic body’s budget meeting. Eyewitnesses claim that somewhere in the middle of the National Anthem, one of the representatives abruptly sang Vande Mantaram. They sang with such vigour, that they recited it till the end.
This goof up gave the opposition party a reason to lash out. They called out for action against the members for 'insulting' the National Anthem.

In response to this comment, IMC chairman Ajay Singh Naruka said, "The mistake was possibly committed following a corporator's slip of the tongue. I do not feel it was due to anybody's ill intention. So, the incident should not be blown up unnecessarily."
Further, he claimed that technically the tradition they follow is to open the IMC’s budget session with the National song first and then later end it with the National Anthem.
Apparently, the law states that the charge an individual could face for an abrupt disruption of the National Anthem is three years of jail time.
