Mumbai, May 9: There are very few composers or musicians in Konkani who experiment with their songs in musical shows (nites) and then put together all the songs in an album.
Antony Tauro is emerging as the new star in Konkani music by presenting eight of his musical nites in Mumbai and Mangalore within a year’s time. Most of his songs have already been well-received by the Konkani audience and people wanted to know where they could get a copy of those songs.
The answer to this is Tauro’s maiden album of Konkani songs, ‘Mog Konne Dekla’, which is to be released in Mumbai on May 9, 2009.
‘Mog Konne Dekhla’, ‘Manglura’, ‘Ghadi Aaj Udelya’, ‘Galpagaranchi Dhuv’, ‘Roopa’, ‘Ye Moga Ye’, ‘Raslain Konak Lagon’, ‘Polka Nach’, ‘Lavina’, ‘Paijana’, ‘Hi Raath Mogachi’, and ‘Bhumi Mullya Gharanth’ (Gresth - Dublo) are some of the songs in the album.
“Antony Tauro has great talent in Konkani music and he needs lots of encouragement and support. Just listen to his lyrics; they are so meaningful, and you will be really impressed”, says John Sequiera, the main organizer of Tauro’s musical nites and president of Konkan Kalakar Mumbai.
Tauro’s song ‘Bhumi Mullya Gharanth, Akas Mullem Paakem’ with rich lyrics was one of the hit songs presented in Dubai recently at the Daiji Dubai 10th anniversary celebrations.
Hailing from Koppa parish of Chikmagalur district , 33-year-old Tauro moved to Mumbai at a very young age and currently runs his own business. His attraction towards Konkani music had developed right from childhood and over the past few years he has featured in Konkani shows around Mumbai especially with artistes like Victor Concessao, Charles D’Cunha and others.
His singer wife Suchita Tauro is great source of inspiration for him. She has lent her voice to one song in this album.
Like other successful musicians in Konkani, Tauro too pens and sets songs to tunes. All songs in the album have been penned and tuned by Antony himself.
Dr Prashant Raj, Prakash Mahadevan, Rony Crasta, Anita Samson, Babita D’Costa, and Baby Dlya are the other singers besides Antony and Suchita.
The original music is by Benjamin Miranda, Mumbai, but music for the album has been organized by Mangalore’s Joel Pereira.
"I want to do alot in Konkani music, but need blessings from Konkani community members" says Antony, whose role model is none other than Konkani's greatest Singer, composer Wilfy Rebimbus. "There is good demand for Konkani music, we need to provide quality music then good market can be created for the albums" hw says
The album has recorded at Sandesha studio, Mangalore.
