Muzzaffarpur, Jun 19: The acute encephalitis syndrome has resulted in over 112 deaths. Over 418 people have been admitted under the suspicion of contracting AES, sources said.
The affected families have slammed the government for the lack of effective measures taken against the disease. The chief minister, Nitish Kumar visited the hospital where over 100 people suffering from the disease were admitted. Soon after, the CM held an emergency meeting over the issue with the respective officials.
The issue has garnered a lot of media attention, constant monitoring and updates on the matter are being given. One of the famous names in journalism Anjana Om Kashyap, executive editor of the Hindi news channel Aaj Tak, has come under fire for her recent coverage of the situation.
An excerpt of the video on the issue shows the journalist stepping into an ICU and questioning the doctor. The journalist can be seen accusing and slamming the doctor for poor conditions of the hospital and lack of effective treatment of the patients. She is also seen hindering the doctor in carrying out his work. The doctor in the video looks helpless and exhausted. The shortage of staff and overfilled ICU exerted extraneous stress on the doctor.
The video has attracted lot of negative reviews for Anjana Om Kashyap for her insensitivity on the matter and the doctor’s situation.
One twitter user wrote: 'It was pathetic, if there are not enough beds for patients you should go and confront health minister and people at power! Instead of harassing a doctor who is already stressed up! Taking Dalaali to a new level'.
One other user tweeted: 'Harassing doctors for lack of facilities. Why don't u go and talk to health minister if u have so much of guts. But u won't do that. It won't support your narrative that doctors are to be blamed for everything'.
'How is she even allowed to barge inside the ICU, create ruckus, admonish doctors who are attending to patients and broadcast the same?' another tweet read.
The epidemic is considered to be one of the most shocking cases to plague Bihar.
