Yeddyurappa Regime’s `No’ to English Medium Schools this Year

Yeddyurappa Regime’s `No’ to English Medium Schools this Year
From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network

Bangalore, May 14: The State Government on Thursday made it clear that it would not change its stance on the language policy and that it would not permit English medium primary schools to operate from this year as it against the policy.

It also announced that it would file an appeal in the Karnataka High Court against a single judge order directing it to consider and pass orders on an application by an English medium school from Bangalore seeking permission to start an English medium school.

Rajajinagar Education Society of Bangalore had moved the High Court after the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), Bangalore North, had issued an endorsement stating that the Government would not permit it to start teaching in English as the Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the Full Bench order of the High Court is pending in the Supreme Court.

The single judge Mohan Shantanagoudar had on April 6, 2009 allowed the petition by the Society and directed the DDPI to consider the society’s application within four weeks after it made the application.
As the four week deadline will end this week, the Government has decided to file an appeal against this order in the High Court, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishvesvara Hegde Kageri and Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Kumar said.

Kageri and Suresh Kumar met presspersons after a holding a meeting with officials and lawyers to discus the issue of language policy. Ministers said the Supreme Court had only deferred hearing of the state’s application seeking a stay on the full bench order of the High Court restricting its language policy only to government schools. The ministers said the Apex Court had asked the Karnataka Unaided School Management Association (KUSMA) and others to file their objections to the State’s application.
Ministers said they would discuss the issue with Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa and file the appeal before the High Court.

Karnataka unable to provide employment to person like me. so I went to Bombay and there-after out of india to fill my pot. This country (where I am working at present) offered employment, security and all comforts of life. Can I get in my Karnataka state? Karnataka planted the Mango tree. But Mangos are eaten by Americans, Europeans and Middle East countries. (highly educated people are well-settled outside Karnataka). Try to retain these people. Yes, you are retaining them by breaking their legs.

There could only be two reasons for Yeddi trying to stop English education schools. 1. This will help him to be in the news 2. He has no idea how to keep the faith of kannadigas that he is their leader 3. Has a phobia for English. Its simple allow all language schools to come up and let the people choose. I can bet Yeddi did learn English(man not be very good) in his younger days out of choice. So why the about turn. india is a free country and let no insane person think they can change that.

Mr.Yeddy do not be a narrow minded. This idea is destroying the future of our younger generation and future of your party. English has become a universal language. We need a language to communicate to the outside world. You can win the world with a command in English and by spreading love and peace to the World. We require both English and Kannada. Bangalore became silicon city because of English and many MNC’s invested in Bangalore because of English otherwise they would have gone to Shanghai-China.

Many brainy Kannada medium students fail to make to the top at the international arena because of poor English, Our kannada will not help you when you go out of Karnataka, In this cyber world, new generation should have very good knowledge of English language for their better future and progress of the nation.

I am a full supporter of having our studies done in our Mother Tounge. In Karnataka we have more than one language and We must give equal importance to all these languages too. My suggestion Why dont we have a Bi-lingual eduacational system where english and kannada are though simultaniously from the KG level and as first languages and implemented in all schools.

We can have some subjects in Kannada and some in English. But take into consideration that we as Indians dont stay in one place we move around and we need an education system that suits all our needs. Best solution for now Introduce Converstional Kannada from KG level itself in all English medium schools.

Dear Chief Minister, your daughter must have embarrassed you after becoming the chief minister, by saying that you are taking tuitions in Hindi, our national language (at this age) and you have to brush up your English. She said so, because she must have studied in an English medium school and that was your blunder.

We all respect our mother tongue Kannada that does not mean you can force your wish on every citizen of this state. If making everyone to study only in Kannada is your right then giving everyone a job in Karnataka is also your duty mind it. People like you and Mulayam Singh will lead our country backward which is unfortunate.  Politicians these days indulge in changing the name of the cities and forcing their wish (language) on others rather than providing basic requirements to our citizens.

Mr.Yediyurappaji, Please allow the parents of the children to make decision whether to send their children to Kannada medium or English medium Schools. The choice should be theirs. I am an ardent Kannada lover, but still beleive that English medium education is better as it may get you a job anywhere in the world. Voluntarily learning kannada is good, but it would not fetch you a job any where other then in karnataka that too unless you belong to SC/ST and reserved category. I know many of the Kannada lovers and respectable persons who have fought for Kannada have sent their children to convents and English medium schools.

As citizens of the state we have to blame ourselves for electing these kind of nonsense leaders to take our state and future of our children back to 19th century instead of taking it forward. It is a pity that these third class politicians will do anything and go to any extent to remain in power.

While we strongly support that Kannada as a language to be learnt but at the choice of the children and the parents and not at the cost of the other univeral language and the future of our children. This government needs to be thrown out of power as soon as possible without waiting for completion of thier terms.

Perhaps the CM will now request all the IT companies supporting foreign multinationals from Bangalore to conduct business in Kannada.............God Help India and Karnataka.

Instead, the people should have gone ahead and studied Hindi, which would have revealed them the truth. So my dear people, forget about cast, creed, race, let us have a common mission to make our children "The World Citizens" and not a "Frog in a small well".

I studied in Kannada medium till SSLC. I started to learn English from 5th. I hope you can understand my English. My grammar may not be at the level of BRITISH but definitely it is at the level to make my fellow BHARATIAN''s to understand. That is more than enough for me.

How or why I should expect a BRITISH to speak Kannada fluently as I speak. It is meaningless. Kalam studied his Primary in Tamil. Is his achievements not enough ? Is he can''t speak in English now ? How many people working at US who originated from here learnt English in 1st Standard ?

To master any language, it takes hard work and long time learning. If the children can start early in life to learn a new language, it is easy for them. Nobody can change the English language, as the world language of science and literature and for the future of India, English has to be taught from the very early stage in life.

If the politicians are playing with the future of our children, that has to be addressed by the voting parents. The politicians will be teaching their children the English language through any avenue, but the public is prohibited to teach their children. That is an irony.

All this talk of BJP being a pro development party falls flat by this particular news.Mr Yeddi is hell bent on taking Karnataka 25 years behind. One of the biggest advantages students of karnataka have had over students of other states in securing jobs has been our better understanding of the language English & by especially the students of DK & Udupi.

As a matter fact I belive we dont have enough english medium schools in DK or Udupi. At the same time we should also show respect towards our local language ( Kannada) and our national Language ( Hindi) by learning them, but not at the expence of english which in these highly globalized world is the most important language

What are these ministers doing? It looks like they have lost their mind. English or Kannada, the decision on the type of education lies with the parents as every child has a right to study. English language is universally recognized and deemed important if our children have to make their mark in this competitive world.

Here, they have not asked approval to start a terrorist den but to open a legitimate school with an intention of educating the young ones. People should realize that they have elected the ministers to oversee the state issues and not encroach into the areas that effect welfare of children.

Well done Yeddy. You will take Karnataka backwards for the next 50 years. you will never improve. let us all study in kannada. do you have sufficient jobs for all the kannadiga''s in your state. People studied in kannada. where are the jobs for kannadigas? The so called few jobs which are in the govt sector are held by some dominant Gowdas. People study in kannada and ultimately not finding any job in karnataka go out of karnataka to seek jobs, where they have to study either English or any other language. Because of this useless leaders we are still lacking in sectors.

I came across an incident in the gulf country. two persons were arguing in arabic. when a pakistani questioned them, both being indians why they were fighting in arabic, they replied that one was speaking tamil and the other from hindi. this happed few years ago. So yedi is now trying to divide india instead of uniting it. just focus on creating jobs rather than imposing some nonsense rules. see what is going on in your own state. i read an article in the newspaper which said that Karanatka is the worst corrupt state in whole of the world!!! just imagine. there are other MLA''s as well who should totally oppose such rules.

Yediyurappa went to the US as soon as he became the CM. Could he use his Kannada everywhere? Was it useful anywhere when he travelled outside. Therefore, please don''t give any importantace to the language which will only lead to division further and further.
