Seven youths held for harassing ex-Miss India Universe granted bail

Kolkata Jun 22 (IANS): A Kolkata court on Friday granted bail to the seven youths held for harassing former Miss India Universe Ushoshi Sengupta, a senior police officer said.

The seven accused were granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 1,000.

The seven youths were arrested on Tuesday by south Kolkata's Charu Market police station on Tuesday, a day after the incident.

They were remanded in two-day police custody on June 19 which ended on Friday.

"The seven accused have been given bail by the Alipur Court today. Police presented them to the court and sought seven days police custody based on the evidences found in the investigation. But court rejected it," deputy commissioner of Kolkata Police (south) told IANS.

A group of bike-borne youths allegedly attacked Sengupta's cab on Monday night after one of their two-wheelers brushed off the car near south Kolkata's Exide crossing. They vandalised the cab and beat up the driver.

The model-actress pleaded them to stop and recorded a short video of the incident in her cell phone.

Later, while Sengupta was dropping her friend, six youths of that group followed them, threw stones at the cab and tried to snatch her phone to delete the video, she had alleged.
