SUV occupant beats up female toll collector in Gurugram

Gurugram, Jun 22 (IANS): An SUV occupant allegedly assaulted a female toll employee in Gurugram's Kherkidhaula toll plaza, located on Delhi-Gurugram expressway.

Subhash Bokan, the PRO of Gurugram police, said the incident occurred on Friday around 8.50 a.m. at lane number 27 where a female was deployed as a toll collector.

"When she asked the vehicle occupant Manjeet Singh to pay the toll tax of Rs 60, he punched her and threatened her that he is a local don," Bokan said.

A police team immediately scanned the CCTV footage of the toll plaza and managed to trace the accused.

"We arrested the accused in the evening. Manjeet had taken the SUV from his friend Monu of Kakrola village and was on his way to his native village Shikohpur from Gurugram. The accused runs a gym in the village. The SUV was recovered from him," Bokan said.

In another incident, a white sedan tried to crush an employee at the same toll around 1.30 am on Friday.

The victim, identified as Dinesh, was deployed at the toll plaza for the night shift. He tried to stop a white-colour sedan as its driver avoided the toll barrier.

Police said Dinesh came in front of the vehicle, but its driver did not stop and tried to crush him. Dinesh has received fracture in the skull and got 10 stitches.

The incident was not reported to the police, Bokan said.
