Mangaluru: PTA general body meeting, honouring ceremony held by LCS

Mangaluru, Jun 22: PTA general body meeting and honouring ceremony of the academic year 2019-20 of Lourdes Central School (LCS) was held at Bejai Church hall on Saturday, June 22.

The programme commenced with the arrival of the bishop of Mangaluru, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha. The bishop was ushered by the tiny tots with a theme ‘We the crusaders of green’. The students of LCS welcomed the gathering with a delightful dance performance. The school choir under the guidance of music teacher Ivan Mascarenhas led the audience to prayer.

Principal Fr Robert D’souza and vice principal Belita Mascarenhas escorted the bishop, the manager and dignitaries Stany vas, vice president and Cony Saldanha, the secretary of Bejai parish pastoral parishad and PTEC vice president, Shankar Babu to the dais.



The manager Fr Wilson L Vitus D’souza delivered the welcome address. Fr Robert D’souza welcomed the bishop with a bouquet of flowers. To mark the inaugural of the programme, bishop planted a sapling to symbolize growth, progress and prosperity of the school.

The principal presented a bird’s eye view on the achievements of the school. He expressed his views on the events conducted in the school to develop interpersonal skills, sportsmanship and optimism among the students. He also appreciated the contribution of the founder Fr Bernard D’souza and the staff in taking LCS to greater heights.

Bishop Fr Peter Paul Saldanha released the Souvenir, ‘The Lourdite’ to commemorate the auspicious occasion of the vicennial year.

The felicitation of the class X and XII toppers was led by the bishop, Fr Manager and the principal. The achievers’ list was read by Linet D’souza, Gowri Ravi,Ms. Harshitha Shetty, Sreelatha and Sharmila Colaco. Shriyana S Mallya of class IV was felicitated for her excellence in International level chess tournament.

The president of the day, Bishop Peter Paul D’souza was felicitated for his great work towards the field of education. Shaila Pereira read the citation. He spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of teachers in a child’s life. He said that knowledge coupled with virtue graced by God can develop a compassionate personality. He also spoke about the innocence of children, effect of modern technology on them and role of parents and teachers in shaping their life. He quoted, “Schools train the minds and tune the hearts."

‘Enlightenment’, a documentary was showcased to visualize the contribution of Lourdites to environment and eco-friendly atmosphere in the school premises. The Yellow Award received from the government added beauty to the documentary.

Shanthi Menezes rendered the vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and the audience for being enthusiastic viewers throughout the programme.

The programme was compered by Vidya Joseph and Dilla Colaco. The teachers in charge were Deepa D’souza, Gretta Menezes, Roshni Jose and Chandini Chitraveer.
